Beyond the Shed is a comprehensive new program designed and delivered by WASIA to assist shearing contractors diversify their businesses. This will help contractors offer a wider range of rural services in their local areas, providing them with year-round work.
The program aims to retain skilled contractors and teams in regional WA, support local economies and communities, and ensure the continuation of essential agricultural services.
We will coordinate training opportunities for contractor teams, so they have the skills to undertake a broader range of agricultural and regional work outside, and around, the traditional shearing season.
Key outcomes of the program include:
- Supporting year-round employment for workers in shearing contractor businesses
- Building business and management capability for local contractors
- Providing workers with certifications and training required to safely and confidently undertake new work
- Promoting the program to farming, agricultural, rural and regional businesses so they are aware they can contact their local Beyond The Shed registered contractors for a range of services
Beyond the Shed is funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. The program is funded through to September 2027, with a potential extension through to May 2028.
